about Engaged Fitness:

The Experience of Feeling Engaged As A Lifestyle

“To know oneself takes a lifetime.” -Bruce Lee

Engaged Fitness is the private fitness practice of Alejandro (Alex) Reyes, which is part of a holistic network of professionals from different backgrounds such as Massage Therapy, Nutrition, Acupuncture, Yoga, Chinese Medicine, Reflexology & Life Coaching. A holistic model ensures powerful and enduring results with a feeling of vitality and longevity. Based in New York, Alex has been working with a varied array of clients since 1998. His clients are as varied as his background. From martial arts, yoga, medical exercises, post rehab, athletic training, mindfulness meditation and more, Alex is fully aware of what it takes to reach an optimal level of fitness and overall well-being.

Most people are some combination of wanting to look better, feel better and perform better. There will be varying degrees of each depending on a number of factors such as work, leisurely lifestyle, sport, current bodily dimensions, emotional state or mood, and simply personal preference. In designing a well-being program, Alex draws his inspiration from the client. By taking a good look at the person’s goals and what’s currently missing functionally, he is able to determine what will be the best path for the individual. As with nutrition, there is no one fitness system for everyone, no matter what anybody says, as undoubtedly there are those trying to sell you their system, program or new device.

A person must be accurately assessed to determine what is the best course of action. As well-respected Neuromuscular Therapist and fitness professional educator Paul Chek has stated, "If you're not assessing, you're guessing," hence the Engaged Fitness slogan, "Science That Builds Function and Well Being." Instead of the kind of guesswork you would unfortunately see as common place in the fitness industry, Alex takes a rigorously scientific and holistic approach to the “art of wellness.” Such things as postural alignment, nervous system development in youth, emotions toward exercise, nutritional intake, performance of basic movement patterns, work and/or sport environment, etc. are all recorded and analyzed.

Consider these scenarios: a mother who can squat with good form to pick her baby up from the floor, a husband who can lift tools and other materials above his head while maintaining good trunk stabilization in order to work on the house, a young athlete looking to increase his explosive mobility and agility to win a 100m race, a middle-aged athlete making a comeback by planning to participate in a 10k run, an obese gentleman with low self-esteem now looking to lose 75 pounds to regain his confidence while maintaining an optimal level of well being, or a woman who had to have her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstructed and is now ready to train that knee back to full function so that she can return to her yoga class. Whatever the goal be it increased strength, muscle mass, stamina, heightened body awareness, flexibility, excelling in competitive sports, healthy weight loss, post rehab, or simply general fitness and looking your best, specific measurable results will certainly be attained. The focus is on well being solutions by looking at what’s missing and simply plugging it in. It’s simple, but for many people not always easy.

It’s all about training the human body to move powerfully and to feel the difference that a well-designed exercise program makes in one’s life while looking great. This is what it means to be ENGAGED and hence the nature of ENGAGED FITNESS.

"..the important thing is this: to be able at any moment, to sacrifice what we are, for what we could become"
-Charles Du Bos
