about Alex Reyes:

Passion, Commitment, Integrity & Knowledge

"Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you."--Ralph Waldo Emerson

Alejandro Reyes is a native New Yorker born in 1973. He has a very diverse background academically and from the school of life. Growing up he was a star science student while remaining very athletic and excelling in various sports and weight lifting. In 1998 he became a Certified Personal Trainer by the American Council on Exercise. The following year he became a Medical Exercise Specialist via the American Academy of Health, Fitness, and Rehabilitation Professionals. In 2001 after years of regular training in New York, he flew to California to train and be certified with former Navy Seal Team 6 instructor Paul Vunak in Bruce Lee’s martial art of Jeet Kune Do. In 2002 and 2003 he attended week-long intensive Kundalini Yoga retreats with world-renowned instructor Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa. He spent over a year solely practicing different forms of Yoga and did a two credit semester of it at Hunter College in their dance department. In 2003 he graduated college with the equivalent to a dual degree in Philosophy and another degree in Comparative Religion, as well as graduate level seminars, research and presentations in both fields. While in school he participated in research fellowships and was the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards. Since he started as an Electrical Engineering student, he also studied Calculus for a couple of years, as well as Physics. He remains a committed scientist, but now in the area of human movement and well-being. He devotes himself to this study with such fervor and his clients can testify to his dynamic ability to implement what he learns. "Practical knowlege that can be implemented in the service of others" has become his motto.

His academic and personal research interests in Philosophy and Comparative Religion include mind-body theories, the origins of scientific, psychological and medical paradigms, as well as Existentialism.

Research interests in Exercise Science include an array of functional training methods for maximizing human performance in sports, rehab and activities of daily living. He also has an interest in neurobiology and takes a very evolutionary approach to human movement.

Since 1993 Alex has studied and practiced different forms of meditation and mind/body disciplines such as Tai Chi Chung, Yan Xin Chi Gong, Zen meditation and Jon Kabat-Zinn’s mindfulness.

After spending years studying the mind with an interest in mind-body theories, he now finds himself learning all that he can about the body. He brings his entire background to the table, thereby taking a very interdisciplinary approach when working with his clients. It is rigorously scientific, but still very holistic. You may find him on the subway reading a Physical Therapy textbook on muscle testing or a holistic work combining nutrition, exercise and lifestyle, but one thing is for certain, you will find him reading. Clients have benefited greatly from his commitment to knowledge. On occasion you may also find him fueling his spirit by reading some of the great works of literature. From Darwin and Dostoevsky to "Dynamic Medicine Ball Training" and "The Lord of the Rings", you will immediately experience his zest for learning upon meeting him.

Dancing is also one of Alex’s greatest passions and he has organized dance fundraisers for Channel Thirteen-PBS, Tsunami Relief and Hurricane Katrina Relief. In the past he has organized Kundalini Yoga festival fundraisers for the Twin Tower Fund and Yoga for Youth. Years ago he also assisted in the teaching of self-defense to woman during a fundraiser for the Susan G. Koman foundation for breast cancer research.

His pursuit of knowledge, excellence and the experience of "being alive" is relentless. This is how he lives a fully ENGAGED life!
